Former Meta Employee Describes Layoff Atmosphere As ‘Almost Like Doomsday’
A former Meta employee described the atmosphere before major layoffs as “almost like doomsday” amid reports of fresh job cuts at the company.
A former employee of Meta has shared details about the tense atmosphere inside the company ahead of its first large-scale layoffs, describing the period as “almost like doomsday” as workers reportedly rushed to collect free office supplies and snacks before job cuts were announced.
Adel Wu, who said she experienced several rounds of layoffs during her final year at Meta, posted on X about the growing anxiety among employees as the company prepares for another expected round of layoffs.
According to Wu, fear and uncertainty continue to shape the work environment at Meta, with reports suggesting the company could eliminate around 8,000 jobs on May 20.

Layoffs Continued Amid Restructuring:
Wu suggested that conditions inside the company have remained largely unchanged since 2021, despite multiple rounds of restructuring and workforce reductions.
Meta conducted its first major layoffs in 2022, cutting around 11,000 employees in what became the company’s first large-scale job reduction in its 18-year history, Economics Times reported.
The layoffs followed heavy spending on the company’s Metaverse initiatives, which struggled to deliver the level of success the company had anticipated.
during my last year at meta there were probably 4-5 layoffs, but this one on 5/20 is huuuge
