X Introduces Posting And Reply Limits For Non-Premium Users
X has introduced new posting, reply, DM and follow limits for non-premium users as part of efforts to reduce spam and improve platform stability.
X has introduced new usage limits for non-premium users, restricting the number of posts, replies and other activities users can perform on the platform unless they subscribe to its paid premium service.
According to information published on the platform’s Help Center page, users with the platform’s paid blue checkmark subscription will not face the newly introduced posting and interaction limits.
The company said the measures were introduced to “alleviate some of the strain on the behind-the-scenes part of X and reduce downtime and error pages.”

Limits For Free Users:
Under the revised system, users seeking unrestricted usage are required to purchase X Premium, which is currently priced at ₹427 per month for the web version and ₹470 per month for Android and iOS app subscriptions.
The subscription also includes access to the platform’s blue verification checkmark.
According to the company, non-premium users will additionally face a direct messaging limit of 500 messages per day.
Users are also restricted to updating their registered email address only four times within a one-hour period.
The platform has also imposed technical following limits.
According to X, users can follow up to 400 accounts per day under standard conditions.
“Please note that this is a technical account limit only, and there are additional rules prohibiting aggressive following behavior,” the company stated on its Help Center page.

Anti-Spam Measures:
The platform also said users following more than 5,000 accounts may encounter additional account-specific restrictions.
“Once an account is following 5,000 other accounts, additional follow attempts are limited by account-specific ratios,” the company explained.
X further noted that users relying heavily on third-party applications and API integrations could hit platform limits more quickly.
“People who use multiple third-party applications with their account will therefore reach the API limit more quickly,” the company said.
According to reports, the measures appear to be part of the company’s broader effort to reduce spam, bot activity and excessive automated behaviour on the platform.
The company also clarified that some limits may be temporarily adjusted during periods of unusually high traffic and activity.
“These limits may be temporarily reduced during periods of heavy site usage. In such cases, we will post an update on the X status site,” the company stated.
The changes reflect the growing trend among social media platforms toward stricter usage controls, monetisation-driven feature access and increased moderation mechanisms aimed at reducing automated spam and platform abuse.
