KFC has refuted the news of serving stale chicken at its outlet in Mangaluru and said that the chicken served and stored in its restaurants is maintained as per the prescribed food safety norms.

The clarification comes after increased food safety checks and regulatory action against restaurants and food businesses across India.

Food Safety Officials Inspect Mangaluru Outlet:

The controversy erupted after a consumer complaint, leading to an inspection of a KFC outlet at the City Center Mall in Mangaluru by officials of Karnataka’s Food Safety Division.

The inspection was reportedly conducted under the supervision of Karnataka Health Minister U.T. Khader after allegations of customers being served spoilt or stale chicken.

Officials took chicken samples for laboratory testing during the inspection. It was also ordered to sell its existing stock and clean its cold storage facilities.

KFC Says Reports Do Not Reflect ‘True Facts’:

“The information being circulated is not the true facts,” KFC said in response to reports about the inspection.

The company said it procures chicken from reputed suppliers across India and follows Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines, along with its own global quality and safety procedures.

KFC added that the chicken is made fresh every day in the restaurant and goes thru several quality checks throughout the supply chain before it reaches customers.

The company said it is fully cooperating with authorities and reviewing the matter in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

KFC also encouraged customers wanting to know more about how it prepared food and its kitchen operations to reach out to the managers of the restaurant in question for a tour of the kitchen.
