OpenAI Launches Health in ChatGPT With Apple Health Integration
OpenAI has launched Health in ChatGPT, allowing eligible US users to connect Apple Health data and medical records for personalised health insights.
OpenAI announced the release of Health in ChatGPT, a new feature that allows eligible U.S. users to securely link their Apple Health data and supported medical records to ChatGPT. This will allow the AI chatbot to provide more personalised health-related responses.
The new feature enables ChatGPT to do more than just answer general health questions, allowing it to mine a user’s medical history, with their full permission, to provide answers based on their individual health information.

Personalised health insights:
ChatGPT Health allows users to integrate information from Apple Health and compatible medical record providers. Once connected, the AI can access relevant data such as medications, lab test results, recent doctor visits, sleep patterns and activity information to provide more contextual responses.
For instance, users could ask ChatGPT to compare new blood test results with previous reports, ask it to summarise changes since their last medical appointment or ask it how sleep and exercise trends may relate to their overall wellbeing.
The feature is designed to help users better understand their health information and prepare for conversations with healthcare professionals, said OpenAI. The company said it is not meant to replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Health dashboard and seamless access:
Users can enable the feature from the Health section of ChatGPT and can choose to connect their health records or not.
Unlike previous versions of the experience, users aren’t required to start conversations in a dedicated Health workspace. Once it’s enabled, ChatGPT will be able to access relevant health information independently across conversations whenever it improves the quality of its responses.
Health section also serves as a dashboard for users to manage connected records, monitor synced information, review health trends and revisit previous health-related conversations.
US rollout begins:
Health in ChatGPT is rolling out to logged-in ChatGPT users aged 18 and above in the United States across the web and iOS platforms.
The feature is available to users on Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. OpenAI said the initial rollout is limited to the US and has not yet announced availability in other countries. The feature is also unavailable in Codex.
Why OpenAI built it
According to OpenAI, more than 300 million people ask ChatGPT health-related questions every week.
The company said many of these conversations involve information spread across hospital portals, laboratory reports, wearable devices and health apps. By connecting these records directly, ChatGPT can provide responses with greater context while reducing the need for users to repeatedly upload documents or explain their medical history.
