Former JioStar CEO Kiran Mani Joins OpenAI as APAC and Japan Managing Director
Former JioStar CEO Kiran Mani has joined OpenAI as Managing Director for Asia Pacific and Japan, overseeing enterprise growth, government relations and developer ecosystem expansion across the region.
OpenAI has announced the appointment of former JioStar Chief Executive Officer Kiran Mani as Managing Director, Asia Pacific and Japan as the company bolsters its leadership team, amid its expansion across key Asian markets.
In a LinkedIn post, Mani confirmed the move, adding that he officially took on the regional role this week.

Key Leadership Appointment:
In his new role, Mani will lead OpenAI’s enterprise business across Asia Pacific and Japan, drive government and policy engagement, and support the expansion of developer access to the company’s AI tools and APIs across the region.
The appointment comes as the company continues to expand its commercial footprint outside of North America, with increasing investments in regional partnerships, enterprise adoption and local operations.
From JioStar to OpenAI:
Mani will be joining OpenAI after heading JioStar, the media and entertainment joint venture formed by the merger of Reliance-backed Viacom18 and Star India.
During his stint, he has been heading the integration of the combined business and managing large digital streaming properties such as JioHotstar.
This appointment represents a major step change from media and entertainment into the fast moving artificial intelligence space.

Before joining JioStar, Mani worked at Google for over 13 years in various leadership roles across the United States, Asia Pacific and Japan.
As head of Android and Google Play across APAC and Japan, he also managed relationships with some of Google’s largest global advertising partners.
He has worked for Microsoft and IBM previously and began his career at the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.
