Shah Rukh Khan Partners with Vodafone Idea to Tease Major Brand Transformation
Vodafone Idea (Vi) signs Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan as brand ambassador, unveils a refreshed logo, and outlines a ₹45,000 crore investment plan for 4G expansion and 5G deployment.
In a major strategic repositioning, Vodafone Idea has appointed Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan as its brand ambassador alongside introducing an updated visual identity.
The telecom operator has evolved its signature visual mark—transitioning the icon in its logo into a dynamic 3D sphere—and launched a new campaign carrying the slogan "Vi badal raha hai... tayaar rahiye" (Vi is changing... be ready). The endorsement by Khan marks a high-profile push by the company to refresh its market presence, though Vodafone Idea has not disclosed the full duration of the partnership.
Operational Shift Beyond Visual Redesign
The visual update signals a broader transformation within the organization rather than a simple aesthetic refresh. Chief Executive Officer Abhijit Kishore stated that the updated branding is intended to reflect a broader evolution in how Vi plans to position itself with consumers and enterprise customers.
Kishore noted that the new identity communicates the company's ambition to drive future growth and expand its footprint beyond traditional telecommunications services. Additional campaign rollouts, product launches, and updated customer experiences are expected to follow over the coming weeks.
Infrastructure Boost Backed by ₹45,000 Crore Plan
The high-visibility rebranding aligns with Vodafone Idea's aggressive operational goals. The operator has outlined a ₹45,000 crore capital expenditure plan spanning the next three years, focusing on key areas:
- Upgrading and expanding 4G network coverage.
- Accelerating the deployment of 5G infrastructure.
- Securing financing to fund large-scale technology investments.
To support this network rollout, Vi raised ₹6,400 crore during the June quarter through bank-funded and non-funded facilities—forming the initial tranche of a larger planned ₹35,000 crore fundraise.
Rebound in Subscriber Growth Drivers
The branding push comes amid improving subscriber metrics. Vi added 240,114 net customers in July, recording its strongest monthly addition in two years. July marked the sixth consecutive month of customer gains for the company since February, as well as its fourth consecutive quarter of net additions since the start of FY27.
Customer acquisition stands as one of the three core priorities under Vodafone Idea's Vi 2.0 strategy, alongside achieving double-digit revenue growth and increasing cash EBITDA threefold over the next three years.
Supported by ongoing backing from its promoters, Aditya Birla Group Chairman and Vi Non-Executive Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla highlighted that FY26 was dedicated to addressing long-standing financial and operational challenges, setting up FY27 as the start of an execution phase. Combining its refreshed "Vi" identity with Shah Rukh Khan's widespread appeal, the company is now executing a unified strategy to attract users, strengthen network infrastructure, and stabilize financial performance.
