Visa Partners OpenAI to Enable Payments Through ChatGPT
Visa has partnered with OpenAI to enable payments within ChatGPT, allowing users to search, compare and purchase products through AI-powered conversations.
Visa has teamed up with OpenAI to embed payments into ChatGPT, enabling users to buy things directly from the chatbot, a major step toward AI-driven commerce.
The partnership will allow consumers to link their Visa cards to ChatGPT and verify purchases through conversation. It won’t just be able to recommend products, it will be able to search for items, compare options and complete transactions on behalf of users.

AI Meets Payments:
The partnership brings together OpenAI's conversational AI technology and Visa's global payments infrastructure.
The arrangement will see ChatGPT conduct product discovery and purchasing on behalf of the user as directed, while Visa provides payment processing, transaction authorisations and fraud protection services.
The companies see the integration helping to streamline online shopping by enabling consumers to hand off routine purchasing decisions to AI assistants.

Toward Autonomous Commerce:
The move is part of a broader push across the industry to get AI agents to be active participants in digital commerce.
The idea is that consumers will tell AI assistants to buy products or services in their pre-defined preferences and budgets, and that should minimise the time spent browsing websites and going through checkout processes.
Visa said the system will be built with safeguards such as spending caps, merchant controls and approval requirements to help mitigate the risks of autonomous spending.
The partnership also represents another effort by OpenAI to establish ChatGPT’s role in online shopping.
Earlier, the company had introduced an Instant Checkout feature that facilitated purchases via the chatbot. However, the initiative was not widely accepted by merchants and was eventually abandoned.
By accessing Visa's vast payments network, OpenAI could significantly expand the number of merchants available through AI-powered buying experiences.
