Google Removes Continuous Scroll, Reinstates Traditional Pagination for Search Results

Google has decided to discontinue the continuous scrolling feature in its search results, reverting to the traditional paginated format. As of June 25, desktop users will no longer experience endless scrolling, with mobile users expected to see the same change soon.

Initially reported by Search Engine Land, Google will replace the continuous scrolling feature with the familiar pagination bar at the bottom of search results. This change has already been implemented for desktop searches, with plans to extend it to mobile searches next month.

Google originally brought infinite scrolling to mobile search in October 2021 and later introduced it for desktop search in December 2022. However, the continuous scrolling feature remained active on desktop search for only about a year and a half. With this update, desktop search results will now display a 'Next' button at the bottom of the page, while mobile search results will feature a 'More results' button.

According to Google, this adjustment aims to enhance the speed at which search results are delivered, focusing on prioritizing actual search queries over automatically loading additional results. Google also noted that increasing the number of automatically loaded search results did not lead to a significant increase in user satisfaction with Google Search.
