Intel Teams Up with Eight Manufacturers to Make Laptops in India
Intel's collaboration entails knowledge sharing to support the domestic production of budget-friendly laptops in India, stimulating the creation of entry-level laptop systems
Intel, the renowned American tech giant, has unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with eight electronics manufacturing services companies and original design manufacturers (ODMs) in India, marking a significant step towards expediting laptop production within the country. The eight companies involved in this initiative are Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
In an official statement, Intel expressed its enthusiasm for the collaboration with these eight firms, some of which are venturing into laptop manufacturing for the first time. This strategic alliance is poised to address both domestic and global laptop demand.
Under this partnership, Intel plans to share its extensive expertise to streamline the production of entry-level laptops in India. This endeavor includes the implementation of cutting-edge surface mount technology lines, the establishment of rigorous quality control processes for components, and the benchmarking of finished products. Furthermore, Intel is extending support to ODMs, encompassing both semi-knocked-down and completely-knocked-down assembly processes.
Santhosh Viswanathan, Intel's Vice President and Managing Director for the India region, commented on the collaboration, emphasizing its pivotal role in bolstering the Indian electronics industry. He stated, "The collaboration between Intel and the Indian manufacturing ecosystem marks a pivotal moment for the Indian electronics industry. Intel has been the fundamental enabler of several electronic ecosystems across the world, and we are excited about fueling the same in India. Bringing in Intel's technology-related investments and global system supply chain ecosystem knowledge exemplifies our dedication to fostering electronic manufacturing capabilities in India. By enabling the laptop manufacturing process—from surface mount technology assembly to finished product—we are not only meeting the demands of the Make in India initiative but also contributing to the technological progress of the nation."
Intel is set to host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit later in November, a significant event that will gather numerous local manufacturers to showcase devices produced within India. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, expressed his delight over this collaboration. He highlighted how Intel's partnership aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to propel India's digital economy to a value of $1 trillion and empower the electronics manufacturing ecosystem to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26.
