Google announced Video Remix, a new AI-powered feature inside Google Photos that helps people turn regular video clips into polished, shareable content, without the need for professional editing skills.

The feature started rolling out on July 8, 2026 to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers in 14 countries including India, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico.

AI-Powered Video Editing:

Video Remix is built on top of Google's Gemini Omni model and is available through the Create tab in Google Photos, the home of creative editing tools in the platform.

It lets users enhance their videos by adding cinematic relighting to brighten dark footage, replace boring backgrounds with more dynamic ones, and add artistic effects such as watercolour, raw sketchbook and oil painting styles.

The tool is supposed to make editing videos easier, with Google saying you can make a polished, shareable video in a few taps.

“Video Remix aims to make high quality video editing more accessible to everyday users, allowing them to edit ordinary clips into better versions without spending hours on manual editing,” Google said.

The rollout comes on the heels of a spate of AI-driven changes to Google Photos including touch-up tools to remove blemishes, fix skin texture and whiten teeth, and a new feature that converts photos of clothing into a virtual wardrobe to try on outfits.

Google continues to add generative AI capabilities to its consumer apps with Video Remix as competition in AI-powered creative tools heats up with companies including Apple, OpenAI and Adobe.
