Truecaller Partners with Microsoft to Introduce Personalized AI Voice Technology
Impressed by Microsoft’s AI voice tech, Truecaller now collaborates with them, allowing users to record and set their voice as an AI assistant
Truecaller, the well-known caller ID and call blocking application, has announced a partnership with Microsoft to integrate Microsoft’s cutting-edge Personal Voice technology. This collaboration, leveraging Azure AI speech, aims to enhance Truecaller’s AI assistant by allowing users to create a digital replica of their voice. This new feature will be available exclusively to Truecaller Premium subscribers.
Truecaller introduced its AI assistant in 2022, which could already handle tasks like answering calls, screening them, taking messages, and recording calls. However, these features were limited to select countries. With the rapid evolution of AI technology, Truecaller recognized the need to upgrade its offerings.
Introducing Truecaller’s Personal Voice Feature
In partnership with Microsoft, Truecaller will now offer a more personalized digital assistant. This enhanced AI assistant will enable callers to hear a user's authentic voice instead of a generic digital assistant voice. The new feature promises to improve how users manage calls and enhance their overall experience. Truecaller showcased this feature in a video demonstration at a Microsoft event on May 20.
Raphael Mimoum, Truecaller’s Product Director and General Manager, highlighted the significance of this innovation in a blog post: “This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants.”
To address security concerns, Microsoft has implemented several safeguards, including automatic watermarks on AI-generated voices and a strict code of conduct requiring consent from the recorded individual and prohibiting impersonation.
Setting Up the New Feature
Currently, the feature is rolling out in selected countries, including India, the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Sweden, and Chile, with plans for further expansion. To set up the personalized AI voice feature, users need to update the Truecaller app to the latest version and have a Premium subscription. Once updated, users can access the Assistant settings in the app and follow the instructions to record and set up their voice.
