Ferrari Luce Sets Auction Record With $40 Million Charity Sale
Ferrari’s electric Luce sets a new auction record after a one-off customised version sells for $40 million at a charity auction.
Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle, the Luce, has set a new auction record after a one-off customised version sold for $40 million at a charity auction during Monterey Car Week in California.
The sale, conducted by Sotheby’s, makes the Luce the most expensive new car ever sold at auction, according to Ferrari. It surpassed the previous record set in 2025, when a specially customised Ferrari Daytona SP3 sold for $26 million.
Ferrari said the entire proceeds from the Luce auction will go towards educational initiatives through The Ferrari Foundation.

Ferrari’s Electric Debut Draws Record Bid:
The Luce was unveiled at Ferrari in May, with a base price of €550,000, or around $636,356. The launch represented a significant change of direction for the luxury carmaker, which has built its brand on high-performance combustion vehicles.
The model was met with criticism from some of Ferrari’s customer and enthusiast base and the company’s shares also came under pressure following the unveiling.
The vehicle sold was a "tailor-made" version, customised to the buyer's requirements. Such vehicles are made as unique commissions, not standard production models.
Jony Ive’s Design Studio Worked on Luce:
The Luce has been created in collaboration with LoveFrom, a design studio founded by former Apple design boss Jony Ive.
The four-door electric vehicle offers more than 1,000 horsepower, a crossover of Ferrari’s performance positioning and its move to battery-powered vehicles.
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna had previously said the company was seeing interest in Luce from both existing customers and new buyers. He said that the model was developed as a true Ferrari product, not just another electric vehicle.

Ferrari Continues to Target High-End Demand:
The record auction comes as Ferrari continues to benefit from demand for limited production and highly customised vehicles.
The company recently lifted its full-year outlook after posting stronger second-quarter results. Limited-run models such as the F80 and higher-priced versions of the Purosangue helped to boost its performance.
The Luce auction illustrates the value that collectors place on one-off Ferrari commissions. The standard model comes at a price tag of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The one-off version sold for $40 million, with proceeds going to charity.
