Elon Musk renames Twitter 'X' as part of a brand refresh
Elon Musk has revealed that Twitter's logo will be changed to a "X" from its iconic Blue Bird emblem, the latest major alteration since the entrepreneur purchased the social media site for $44 billion last year. Musk stated that the modification would take effect later today.
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccino has already announced the name of the microblogging network, "X," which will be an AI-powered platform focused on audio, video, message, payments, and baking. "It's an exceptionally rare thing — in life or in business — that you get a second chance to make another big impression," the CEO wrote on Twitter. "Twitter made a huge impact and changed the way we communicate." X will now go even further, altering the worldwide town square."
She went on to say, "X will connect us all in ways we're only just beginning to imagine." On Sunday, Musk released a short video of a flashing "X," and later in a Twitter Spaces audio chat, he replied "Yes" when asked if the logo would change. "Yeah, we're cutting the Twitter logo off the building with blow torches," he said to an unidentified speaker.
Twitter has recently pushed more users to purchase premium blue subscriptions by putting the most used functions behind a barrier. With this branding refresh, the corporation might further optimize the platform to encourage additional people to join the subscription bandwagon. Musk's Twitter is up against Meta's Thread, which has millions of users on a Twitter-like network.
For the time being, the URL x.com redirects to twitter.com, and the change in the branding of the world's largest microblogging network will be officially confirmed in the following days. Elon Musk is reportedly considering changing the platform's default color from white to black.
This isn't the first time Musk has messed with Twitter's branding. Twitter's blue bird logo was replaced in April 2023 with the logo of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. However, within a few days, it was replaced by the original logo.
