Saugata Basuray has been appointed as Managing Director of Castrol India for a period of five years commencing June 1, 2026.

The appointment was approved at a meeting of the company’s board of directors on May 28, a regulatory filing said.

Basuray, presently Whole-Time Director and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Castrol India, will now be the company’s Managing Director.

Global Leadership Journey:

Basuray, a long-serving Castrol executive, joined the company as a management trainee in 1999 after completing his MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.

Over the last 26 years, he has held a variety of leadership positions in sales, marketing and business management functions in domestic and international markets.

Basuray has worked across markets and business segments in India, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and Indonesia during his tenure with Castrol.

In 2008 he joined the marketing team at Castrol’s global headquarters in the UK, working on the global development of the Castrol Edge lubricant brand.

On his return to India, he headed the B2B sales operations of the company and later took over as the Head of Marketing for Castrol India.

He would later be appointed head of Castrol Philippines and then Managing Director of Castrol’s joint venture operations in Indonesia.

Leadership Transition:

Prior to his interim appointment as CEO, Basuray was Whole-Time Director and Head of Castrol India’s B2C business, leading key initiatives for the company’s go-to-market strategy and distribution network expansion.

Basuray is an engineer by qualification from the University of Pune and holds an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.

The appointment represents a leadership transition at Castrol India as the company continues to focus on bolstering its lubricant business, extending market reach and responding to the changing trends in the mobility and automotive industry.

Basuray has over 20 years of experience in global and domestic operations and is expected to be a key contributor in shaping the company’s next growth phase.
