Britannia Celebrates Tamil Nadu’s ‘Poo Potta’ Biscuit Tradition in New Milk Bikis Campaign

Britannia Milk Bikis has unveiled its latest campaign centering on a nostalgic snacking ritual deeply rooted in Tamil Nadu: biting off the decorative floral border before eating the core of the Classic biscuit. Over generations, this habit earned the product a local moniker—'Poo Potta Border Biscuit', which translates to 'the biscuit with the flower border'.

Created by the agency Talented, the campaign centers on a simple question regarding the design: which flower is actually embossed on the biscuit?

A Young Girl’s Quest for Answers

The campaign film captures a young girl seeking the truth behind the flower design. Her search takes her through daily life in Tamil Nadu, prompting questions to a local flower vendor, her science teacher, and ultimately famous Tamil debate moderator Solomon Pappiah to settle the discussion.

"The wordplay between the flower on the biscuit (poo) and love (anbu) gave us a beautiful way to showcase the affection the people of the state have had for Milk Bikis for generations," noted PG Aditiya, Co-founder and CCO at Talented. "And who better to settle a debate than THE Solomon Pappiah?"

Celebrating a Regional Cultural Bond

The initiative highlights the enduring relationship between the brand and consumers across Tamil Nadu, where the snack has been a household staple for decades.

  • Brand Perspective: Puneet Das, Chief Marketing Officer at Britannia, emphasized that the campaign celebrates how locals have personalized the brand, right down to naming it after its floral edge.
  • Production Vision: Directed by Farooq Mohamed of Kadhai Films, the narrative leverages the nostalgia of growing up with the brand, focusing on warmth and local authenticity.

Experiential Retail and Visual Series

Beyond the main film, Britannia is extending the narrative directly to point-of-sale environments. The brand has introduced retail guides demonstrating the traditional rim-first eating technique alongside a dedicated photo documentary series capturing real consumers practicing the iconic ritual across Tamil Nadu.
