Sony LIV Plugs into YouTube’s Global Stage
Sony LIV teams up with YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels to bring its Indian originals and films to global audiences in the US, UK, and more.
Sony LIV is taking its storytelling global with a distribution deal that turns YouTube from a platform into a partner. The streaming service has tied up with YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels, enabling viewers in the US, UK, France, Germany, and Australia to subscribe to Sony LIV content directly through YouTube’s ecosystem.
With this move, major Sony LIV originals like Scam 1992, Rocket Boys, Maharani, and Tanaav become more accessible to the Indian diaspora and fans of South Asian drama abroad. The integration offers a simple, familiar entry point—the kind of seamless access that can convert casual international viewers into binge-watchers.
Subscription pricing is set by region: $7.99 per month in the U.S., £7.99 in the UK, €8.49 in Germany and France, and AUD 13.99 in Australia. Beyond regional pricing, what’s equally important is unified billing—users pay through YouTube, simplifying the experience for those who already use the platform.
Sony LIV’s Head of Monetisation called this partnership a milestone, saying the aim is to bring “authentic Indian stories” to global audiences in a way that feels integrated rather than siloed. For YouTube, it’s a chance to deepen its international content library and offer localized subscriptions that resonate with its multicultural user base.
This is more than a marketing play; it’s a strategic expansion. While many OTT platforms struggle with subscriber churn and fragmentation, Sony LIV is betting on audience familiarity and low friction. By aligning with YouTube’s distribution engine, it gains both scale and distribution muscle.
For content creators, this deal could be transformative. As Indian shows gain viewership abroad, OTT producers may get more confident in financing ambitious, cross-border originals. For advertisers and studios, it’s a signal that Indian storytelling isn’t just a local phenomenon — it’s a borderless export.
In short, Sony LIV is no longer just an Indian streaming platform. With this YouTube tie-up, it’s staking a claim in the global narrative economy — telling Indian stories on a stage millions already inhabit.
