Leading e-commerce and quick-commerce companies, including Amazon, Eternal (Zomato), Meesho, Swiggy and Zepto have come together to form a new industry body, the Digital Commerce Coalition (DCC) to address key issues and opportunities within India’s rapidly evolving digital commerce ecosystem.

Flipkart, however, is not a founding member of the coalition, a report by Entrackr said.

The coalition is seen as a place where industry players can meet, conduct research, and engage with stakeholders about the challenges faced by digital commerce companies nationwide.

Industry Priorities:

The member companies said in a joint statement on June 1 that the body would focus on areas including customer experience and trust, delivery partner welfare, entrepreneurship, economic participation, support for small businesses, supply chains, sustainable growth and responsible innovation.

The coalition is being formed against the backdrop of huge growth in India’s digital commerce space, supported by increasing smartphone penetration, expanding internet access, evolving business models and rising adoption in Tier II and Tier III cities.

It said public policy consultancy Koan Advisory Group has been appointed as the coalition’s secretariat and will be responsible for its research, policy engagement and stakeholder outreach work.

“Digital commerce is making everyday consumption easier and is at the same time opening new avenues of livelihood and entrepreneurship for millions,” Bedi said.

Prachi Bhuchar, Head of Public Policy at Meesho, said the sector has become a significant driver of entrepreneurship, particularly for small businesses and underserved markets.

“Digital commerce has helped create entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly for small businesses and underserved markets,” Bhuchar said.

Meanwhile, Zepto’s Chief Policy Officer Rachit Ranjan said collaboration across the industry might help overcome challenges related to MSME participation, supply chain efficiency and consumer trust.

The launch of the Digital Commerce Coalition adds to a growing number of industry bodies representing technology and internet businesses in India.
