Hamilton Ends Long Win Drought with Thrilling British GP Victory
Lewis Hamilton triumphed at the British Grand Prix, securing his first F1 win in 945 days and setting a new record for most wins at a single Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton secured his first victory in 945 days at a dramatic wet-dry British Grand Prix, setting a new record with his ninth win at Silverstone.
Initially trailing behind teammate George Russell in the early laps, Hamilton surged ahead on Lap 18 as rain began. Lando Norris then took the lead, only to be overtaken by Max Verstappen soon after.
Hamilton, Norris, and Russell switched to intermediate tires on Lap 27, with Russell retiring on Lap 34 due to technical issues. The track dried, prompting Hamilton to switch to softs on Lap 38, while Verstappen opted for hards and Norris for softs.
In the closing laps, Hamilton defended his lead against Verstappen, securing his record-breaking ninth British Grand Prix victory and his 104th overall F1 win. This victory also marked his 150th podium with Mercedes and a milestone 30th win for a British driver.
Further down the field, Piastri took fourth, followed by Sainz and an impressive Hulkenberg in sixth for Haas. Aston Martin secured double points with Stroll and Alonso, while Albon and Tsunoda rounded out the top ten.
Among the retirements were Russell and Gasly, with technical issues affecting their races.
Hamilton’s victory underscores his prowess and resilience in Formula 1, as he becomes the first driver to win a Grand Prix after his 300th start in his 344th career race.
