Prime Minister Modi highlighted food processing reforms at World Food India 2024, emphasizing global standards, farmer support, and the upcoming Global Food Regulator Summit
On Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has implemented several reforms over the past 10 years to develop the food processing sector. These measures ensure that India establishes global innovation, sustainability, and safety standards in the food sector. The Prime Minister's message was read in the third edition of "World Food India 2024." This event started on September 19 and will end on September 22 in the national capital, with participants from more than 90 countries.
Modi stated, "In today’s era, through progressive agricultural practices, strong administrative frameworks, and cutting-edge technologies, we are focusing on ensuring that India sets global standards for innovation, sustainability, and safety in the food sector."
He further added that over the past 10 years, the government has implemented comprehensive reforms to bring transformation in the food processing sector. "Through multi-faceted initiatives like 100 percent FDI (foreign direct investment) in food processing, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana, setting up of micro food processing enterprises, and the production-linked incentive scheme for the food processing industry, we are creating a strong environment across the country for modern infrastructure, strongly built supply chains, and job creation," Modi said.
The Prime Minister also noted that with participation from several countries, World Food India 2024 has emerged as a unique platform for global talent in the food industry, education, and research to make the most of growing opportunities.
"India has a vibrant and diverse food culture. The backbone of the Indian food ecosystem is our farmers. It is these farmers who have ensured nutritious and delicious traditions of culinary excellence. We are supporting their hard work with innovative policies and their implementation," Modi said.
He also emphasized that the government's goal is to empower small enterprises. Modi added that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will organize the Global Food Regulator Summit, which will bring together global regulators, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and many renowned domestic institutions. This summit will facilitate discussions on broad issues like food safety, quality standards, and best practices.
