No one innovates or applies innovations at the scale India does: Toby Deshpande
Speaking at the FICCI Frames 2023, Viacom18 CEO Jyoti Deshpande stated, "These are exciting times for content, commerce, and community, which are the enduring cornerstones of the media and entertainment sector, increasing exponentially fueled by technological innovation.
She continued by saying that India is proudly leading the charge and promoting the Make in India slogan around the world.
Deshpande said that, with an average monthly data usage of roughly 20GB, Indians are the world's top content consumers. By 2027, 46 GB are predicted to have been produced.
"A digital forward economy has already seen content and data consumption levels reach monumental proportions by global standards," she added. "Disruption such as free digital IPL on Jio Cinema, and an imminent equally disruptive entertainment launch."
She also noted that Digital India, the government of India's flagship program with a goal to turn India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, coincided with Jio's launch of a digital revolution in 2015 to link everyone and everything, everywhere.
She claims that the spread of smartphones, connected TV, the arrival of 5G, and reasonably priced data rates all help to realize the dream of a digital India. Deshpande noted that India is now on track to become a Rs 2.83 trillion sector by 2025, driven by double-digit growth.
"It would be my goal to see us beat these projections as we show the rest of the world how to go digital, whether it be by democratizing the creative economy or upending digital distribution. Nobody innovates as well as India. Nobody can implement on the scale that India can.
