YouTube announced a slew of new creator analytics and editing tools powered by AI to help measure audiences, remix content and engage creators across its platform.

One of the biggest additions is a new analytics metric called “unique reach” to measure co-viewing behaviour, especially on connected televisions.

YouTube says the metric differs from the existing “unique viewers” metric by estimating how many people are watching a video together on a single screen.

If one person, for example, watches a video several times on a smartphone, YouTube counts several views, but only one unique viewer. But when more than one person watches a video on a TV, the platform counts it as one view but also includes multiple co-viewers in its new unique reach metric.

The company said the feature is more in line with TV and advertising measurement standards and is intended to help creators better understand the total audience impact of their content.

The metric could also arm creators with more powerful audience data when they are negotiating advertising partnerships and sponsorship deals.

Gemini Omni Rollout:

YouTube also added more creative tools for image-based content in YouTube Shorts, along with analytics updates.

You can also now add music to image posts and carousel-style Shorts content, with a single post supporting up to 10 photos.

YouTube said creators can use music from its audio library and Dream Track and more music and creative tools are expected to rollout later this year.

YouTube also revealed Gemini Omni, a new AI-powered remixing feature for Shorts and the YouTube Create app. Users can remix qualifying Shorts videos with text prompts, AI-generated edits, or uploaded images using the tool. The company says users can make visual or stylistic changes to up to 10 seconds of video content.

AI Remix Safeguards:

YouTube said remixed videos will automatically link back to the original creator, and creators will still be able to control whether their content can be remixed.

Users will also be able to turn off visual remixing on individual videos, or in bulk in their account settings.

The platform also said AI-generated remixes will feature digital watermarks and metadata labels and will continue to adhere to YouTube’s existing community guidelines.

The updates are a reaction to increasing competition among creator platforms to provide more sophisticated AI-powered editing tools, audience analytics, and monetization features for creators as the short-form video and creator-driven content ecosystems continue to grow globally.
