Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched a new social media campaign targeting rival Bharti Airtel’s recently launched Priority Postpaid service, reigniting competition over how telecom operators position premium network experiences in the 5G era.

The campaign revolves around the tagline “Strong Network. Sabka Haq”, and positions Vi as a brand that believes in the quality of the network to be made available to all users and not restricted to a particular class of subscriber.

The campaign seems to be a direct reaction to Airtel’s Priority Postpaid offering, which leverages 5G Standalone (SA) network slicing technology to deliver improved connectivity to eligible postpaid users when the network is congested.

In one of the creatives shared on social media, Vi states, “Not on their priority list? You’ll always be ours.” Another post reads, “A network should connect India. Not divide it.”

The messaging contrasts Vi with Airtel's premium connectivity story and leverages the larger debate on differentiated network experiences.

Airtel has recently introduced Priority Postpaid to provide superior speeds and stable connectivity in high density locations like concerts, airports, metro stations and busy marketplaces where there is a higher chance of network congestion.

The service comes across Airtel’s postpaid portfolio, with plans starting at Rs 449 to family plans with bundled benefits such as Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Apple TV+, Apple Music and Netflix subscriptions. Existing eligible postpaid customers are also being automatically migrated to the priority tier.”

Equal Access:

Vi’s campaign is all about making a narrative around inclusivity, saying that network performance should be a service for all and not a premium feature for few customers.

The campaign is set against the backdrop of telecom operators seeking to monetise their investments in next-generation 5G infrastructure through differentiated services and premium offerings.

While Airtel is focusing on premium connectivity experiences driven by network slicing technology, Vi is trying to position equal access and inclusivity as a key brand value.

Differentiated network access has also been the focus of increased regulatory scrutiny. According to reports, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) conducted preliminary assessments of Airtel’s Priority Postpaid service and found no indication of a breach of the net neutrality principles, and that prioritised traffic management did not adversely affect service quality for non-priority users.
