Reliance Retail launches one-hour delivery pilot in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai
The service targets 30-45 minute deliveries, partnering with kirana stores for broader reach and quicker fulfillment, enhancing convenience and efficiency in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai
Reliance Retail has initiated a pilot program for the immediate delivery of groceries and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in selected areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, according to a report by the Economic Times.
This quick delivery service is integrated into the JioMart application and is referred to as the 'hyperlocal delivery option'. Reliance aims to reduce delivery times to 30-45 minutes as more stores are incorporated into the system.
While other companies are delivering orders within 10-15 minutes, Reliance has chosen not to compete in this ultra-rapid delivery space. Instead, it focuses on partnering with local kirana stores to ensure quicker deliveries, as stated in the report. In areas where its store network is limited, Reliance plans to collaborate with kirana stores that have joined the JioMart Partner initiative. These kiranas source their products from Reliance Retail's wholesale arm and are connected to its backend systems.
To facilitate the fulfillment process and optimize delivery routes, the company utilizes technology platforms such as FYND and Locus. At a later stage, there are plans to expand this hyperlocal delivery model to include apparel and electronic items.
Last year, Reliance had also launched a quick delivery pilot in Navi Mumbai, but it was eventually shelved.
