Instagram will soon expand Reels audio limit to 20 tracks for creators

Instagram users in India now have enhanced creative tools at their disposal as the platform introduces the Multi-Audio Tracks feature for Reels. This update allows users to incorporate up to 20 music tracks into a single Reel, significantly expanding options for audio customization.

Moreover, the feature enables seamless alignment of elements such as text, stickers, and clips within Reels, offering users greater control over visual presentation during editing.

Announced via an Instagram post captioned, “Starting today, you can add up to 20 tracks to a single reel and visually align audio with elements like text, stickers, and clips while you’re editing in the app. Swipe through to learn more!”, the update aims to empower creators with more flexibility and creativity in content creation.

Additionally, Instagram disclosed that users creating unique audio mixes through song combinations will have these attributed to them, allowing others to save and reuse these custom tracks on the platform.

Addressing the rollout, Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, highlighted, “Starting today you can add up to 20 audio tracks to a single reel, giving you more creative freedom with your content. You can align your audio with text, stickers, and clips while editing it within Instagram. When you do this, you’ll also create your own unique audio mix that fans can save and reuse. Give it a try and let me know what you think.”

Previously, Mosseri emphasized Instagram’s commitment to prioritizing short-form videos over long-form content. He explained, “It turns out the long-form video is less symbiotic with these other jobs. If you watch a 10 or 20 minute video, you see less content from friends, you interact with your friends less, and you’re actually less likely to send that content or that video to a friend.”

He further clarified, “So we’re not going to go after that business because it’s part of our core identity to connect people with friends, and we don’t want to undermine that by going after long-form video. We understand short-form video doesn’t always do that, but it can.”

The new Multi-Audio Tracks feature is now live for Indian users, marking a significant enhancement in Instagram’s offerings tailored to the vibrant creativity of its Indian community.
