Himanshu Shekhar steps down as GroupM Southeast Asia CEO after 25 years, leaving a legacy of innovation, team-building, and strategic alliances in key markets.

After more than 25 years with GroupM, Himanshu Shekhar has stepped down from his position as Southeast Asia CEO. Shekhar, who took on the role in May 2023, played a crucial part in driving the company’s success across key markets in the region. His leadership was pivotal in expanding GroupM's presence and influence in Southeast Asia.
Shekhar’s journey with GroupM began over two decades ago, where he held several leadership roles, particularly within Mindshare. In April 2022, he was promoted to Cluster CEO of GroupM Thailand, with responsibilities also covering Indonesia and Vietnam. He had already established a strong leadership record when he became CEO of GroupM Indonesia in 2011 and took on the role of Southeast Asia CEO in 2014. Throughout his career, he cultivated strong partnerships with global and regional brands, including Unilever, Nestlé, GSK, Indofood, and Shopee.
Before his tenure in Southeast Asia, Shekhar led Mindshare India, spending over seven years in various roles, ultimately becoming General Manager. He also gained experience as the Business Head North & West at Big FM for two years.
Recognized for his focus on innovation, team-building, and creating strategic alliances, Shekhar’s leadership has been a driving force in GroupM’s success in the region. His impact has positioned the company for continued growth in key Southeast Asian markets.
