Top 5 Biggest Announcements From Google I/O 2026
Google introduced new AI-powered search tools, Gemini features and smart glasses partnerships at its I/O 2026 developer conference.
Google announced a string of new artificial intelligence tools and product updates at its annual I/O developer conference, including improvements to AI-powered search, enhanced Gemini features and a new series of smart glasses in the works with hardware and eyewear partners.
At the event in Mountain View, California, the company introduced a revamped “intelligent” search box for Google Search, which CEO Sundar Pichai said was the biggest upgrade the platform has seen in 25 years, according to reports.
The updated search experience allows users to ask longer, more natural language-based questions and AI-powered query suggestions now go beyond standard autocomplete suggestions.

Advanced Gemini Features:
According to a report by NY Times, Google said users will also be able to ask follow-up questions directly in AI-generated search overviews, while more complex interactions will shift users into AI Mode for longer conversations.
The company also said it will add new AI tools that use search for paying subscribers to Gemini.
One of these is the “information agents” feature, which continuously scans the web for topics users want to have tracked and summarised.
According to demonstrations shared at the conference, the tool can surface updates, discussions and contextual information about niche interests and ongoing topics from across the internet.
Paid subscribers will also be able to generate custom-coded outputs directly from search, including itinerary planners, educational animations and collaborative planning tools.

AI Wearables Push:
Google additionally introduced a new AI assistant tool called Google Spark, described as a “24/7 personal agent” integrated into Gemini.
The company pitched Spark as an always-on background assistant that proactively manages and organises information using Gemini 3.5 and its AI agent development platform, Antigravity.
Google also teased a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, expected to launch later this year, in addition to software announcements.
The smart glasses are being developed with Samsung, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
The glasses are part of Google's larger push to extend AI-powered wearable computing experiences beyond smartphones and laptops, the company says.
The announcements underline Google’s ongoing efforts to embed AI more deeply into search, productivity, wearables and consumer services amid heightened competition in the generative AI market among global technology players.
