Gatorade and F1 Academy Drive a New Era for Women in Motorsport

Gatorade has taken a bold step into the future of motorsport by announcing a landmark, multi-year partnership with F1 Academy, the all-female racing series dedicated to empowering the next generation of women in Formula 1. This collaboration, running until 2030, makes Gatorade the first-ever official sports drink partner of F1 Academy and signals a new era of science-backed, purpose-driven support for female athletes in one of the world’s most demanding sports.

A Partnership Beyond Branding

Unlike traditional sponsorships, Gatorade’s alliance with F1 Academy is hands-on and deeply integrated. The partnership kicks off at the Canadian Grand Prix, where 16-year-old Wild Card driver Mathilda Paatz will debut a Gatorade-branded race car and suit, marking the immediate activation of this new relationship.

But the collaboration is about much more than logos and visibility. At its core is the Gatorade Sport Science Institute (GSSI), which will provide F1 Academy drivers with world-class expertise in hydration, performance testing, and research tailored to the unique physical and mental demands of motorsport. Formula 1 drivers can lose up to 4 kilograms of body weight through sweat in a single race, making optimal hydration critical for both peak performance and recovery.

Fuel Tomorrow: Empowering Young Athletes

This partnership is a cornerstone of Gatorade’s “Fuel Tomorrow” initiative, which aims to provide 2.5 million teens with access to sports by 2030. By supporting F1 Academy, Gatorade is actively breaking down barriers in motorsport and inspiring young women globally to pursue their dreams on and off the track.

Umi Patel, PepsiCo’s Vice President of Marketing Innovation and Hydration Brands, emphasized the significance:

“This partnership allows us to bring our decades of sports science expertise directly to the next generation of elite drivers, encouraging them to see what is in them and fuel their drive and ambition for success. That’s what our Fuel Tomorrow initiative is all about.”

Science-Backed Performance for the Next Generation

From the 2026 season onwards, Gatorade will roll out a full-scale, performance-driven partnership. This includes:

  • Personalized Hydration Strategies: Tailored plans for each driver, addressing the unique needs of young female athletes in high-intensity racing.
  • Performance Testing: Using GSSI’s research and technology to optimize driver fitness, endurance, and recovery.
  • Bespoke Hydration Research: Understanding and addressing the specific hydration needs of female drivers, a first for the sport.

Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy, praised the partnership:

“What has impressed me most about Gatorade is how seriously they’re investing in our drivers, not just as athletes, but as individuals with incredible potential. This isn’t a surface-level sponsorship, it’s a deeply hands-on partnership that brings world-class hydration science and performance expertise directly to our paddock."

Inspiring the Next Generation

The collaboration is already making waves, with Mathilda Paatz—currently competing in the F4 CEZ Championship—joining the Montreal grid as the first Wild Card driver in a Gatorade-sponsored car. “To now be racing on a Formula 1 weekend, with fans around the world watching, is a dream come true. I’m especially proud to partner with Gatorade, a brand that’s championed athletes at every level and is helping pave the way for the next generation of women in motorsport,” shared Paatz.

A Purpose-Driven Future

This partnership comes at a time of growing interest in women’s motorsport, with F1 Academy gaining global attention through Netflix documentaries and worldwide broadcasts. Gatorade’s involvement is set to accelerate the Academy’s mission of securing the next female Formula 1 driver, providing the science, support, and visibility needed to turn ambition into achievement.

As Gatorade and F1 Academy join forces, they are not just fueling races—they are fueling dreams, breaking barriers, and shaping the future of motorsport for women everywhere
