Apple Reviews Tata Electronics Data Breach Following Alleged Leak
Apple is investigating a cybersecurity incident at Tata Electronics after a ransomware group claimed to have leaked files linked to Apple and Tesla, although neither company expects any impact on operations.
Apple is probing a recent cybersecurity incident involving Tata Electronics, after a ransomware group claimed to have leaked files allegedly tied to the iPhone maker and electric vehicle maker Tesla, according to reports.
Apple’s worldwide cybersecurity team is looking into the incident to figure out what caused it and whether more security steps are required, according to people familiar with the matter. The company at this point, however, does not consider the breach to be a major threat to its operations.

Cybersecurity Review:
Much of the data that was allegedly exposed is believed to be older information from 2021, and does not include highly sensitive operational material, the people said. Although a large volume of files have been reported to be published online, the actual level of critical data exposure appears to be limited.
The incident has not raised major concerns within Apple, the sources said, as existing cybersecurity safeguards remained operational and there has been no indication of disruption to business activities. However, once the company completes its review, it could suggest improvements to security protocols.
The probe follows claims by ransomware group World Leaks that it had hacked Tata Electronics and uploaded what it said were component design and specification documents related to Apple and Tesla, both customers of the Indian electronics maker.
More than 200,000 files have been published on the dark web by the cybercriminal group. Sources familiar with the incident said Tata Electronics also received a ransom demand in connection with the incident.

Dark Web Leak:
World Leaks says the breach holds more than 630 GB of data. The group’s dark web interface apparently contains files claimed to be Apple-related documents, including records of manufacturing and component specifications.
Cybersecurity researchers Rajshekhar Rajaharia and Rakesh Krishnan, who have examined some of the leaked data, told Reuters it appeared to contain emails, event logs and copies of employee passports. The data has reportedly been available on the dark web since June 10 at the latest.
Responding to the incident, a Tata Electronics spokesperson said, “A few weeks ago, Tata Electronics identified a cybersecurity incident on some of our systems. Our response protocols were deployed immediately, and the incident has had no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected.”
The company has not disclosed the specific systems affected or the full extent of the data involved. Sources said the incident was contained after internal cybersecurity response mechanisms were activated.
The development comes as Tata Electronics continues to expand its role in Apple’s global supply chain, including iPhone manufacturing and component production in India.
