Starbucks Launches Premium Reserve Store In Connaught Place
Starbucks has opened a premium Reserve store in Connaught Place, offering rare coffees and a more immersive experience.
Coffee is easy to find in Connaught Place, but finding a cup worth slowing down for is much harder. That is exactly what Starbucks is now trying to change with the launch of its premium Reserve store in the heart of the capital.
What was once the brand’s first outlet in Delhi has now been transformed into a more refined and immersive space. This new format, known as Starbucks Reserve, is designed to offer a deeper and more thoughtful coffee experience. With only around 50 such stores across the world, the Delhi location becomes the third in India, after Mumbai and Gurugram.

Premium Coffee Experience Gains Ground:
Unlike a regular Starbucks café, which focuses on speed and familiarity, the Reserve format is built around exploration. At the centre of the store is the Reserve Bar, where customers can watch the entire coffee making process. The idea is to make coffee preparation more visible and engaging, encouraging people to learn more about what they are drinking.
The menu also goes beyond the usual cappuccinos and lattes. It includes rare, small lot, single origin coffees and specialised brewing methods. Premium offerings such as the Bianco Shakerato and zero proof coffee cocktails are designed for those who are willing to try something new and different. These drinks are priced higher than standard items, although the core menu remains similar in cost.
This move reflects a broader shift in India’s coffee culture. While the country is still largely a tea drinking market, coffee consumption is steadily growing. The overall market is valued between USD 1.7 billion and USD 2.4 billion, but penetration remains relatively low at around 20 percent.
Focus On Experience And Growth:
Starbucks appears to be targeting a new kind of customer, one who is curious and open to experimentation. The company is not just aiming to increase the number of coffee drinkers, but also to deepen their interest in coffee.
Another key focus is what the company calls “dwell time”. Customers are encouraged to spend more time in the store, interacting with baristas and exploring different flavours. Despite its premium positioning, the Reserve store remains accessible. There is no booking system, and anyone can walk in freely.
With revenues of ₹1,277 crore in FY25, up 5 percent from the previous year, Starbucks is continuing to grow in India. The launch of the Reserve store shows that the brand is betting on experience, not just convenience, as India’s coffee journey continues to evolve.
