SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong Joins Air India Board
Goh Choon Phong, the CEO of Singapore Airlines (SIA), is poised to join the board of Air India following its merger with Vistara, the joint venture between Tata Group and SIA, set for November 12. Additionally, PB Balaji, the group CFO of Tata Motors, will also be appointed to the Air India board, as reported.
These appointments will receive official approval from the Air India board once the Ministry of Civil Aviation greenlights Singapore Airlines' investment, which is expected to grant SIA a 25.1 percent stake in Air India, according to ET.
In another development, Hamish Maxwell, who previously oversaw flight operations at Vistara, has been named the Chief Operating Officer of Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India.
Post-merger, the Tata Group will oversee Air India’s management, while SIA will provide personnel to bolster flight operations and engineering.
Phong, who has been with SIA since 1990, has held various senior management positions both in Singapore and internationally. He became a member of SIA’s Board on October 1, 2010, and took on the CEO role on January 1, 2011. Prior to this, he served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and the Regions, as well as President of SIA Cargo. His extensive experience also includes Senior Vice President roles in Finance, Information Technology, and Commercial Technology, along with international assignments in China and Scandinavia.
