JioStar has announced the rebranding of ESPNcricinfo as Cricinfo, returning the iconic cricket platform to its original name over three decades after its launch.

It is part of the ongoing integration and operational restructuring following the merger of Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company’s India media businesses, which was completed in November 2024.

Cricinfo, founded in 1993, was one of the world's first digital cricket destinations, and it cultivated a loyal global audience with its deep archives, live coverage, statistics and cricket journalism. The platform later embraced the ESPNcricinfo identity after becoming a part of ESPN’s global sports media network.

The next phase of evolution will include AI-powered innovations to enhance our storytelling, which, as ever, will stay rooted in originality.”

The company said the rebranding represents the platform’s heritage and future ambitions, with plans to integrate artificial intelligence tools to enhance content discovery, storytelling and fan experiences.

JioStar has confirmed that users arriving at ESPNcricinfo through existing bookmarks, article links or the old website address will be automatically redirected to the new Cricinfo domain, ensuring a seamless experience for users. The company said the redirects will remain in place indefinitely, allowing for a seamless transition without service disruption.
