In a refreshing twist to India’s high-energy fitness culture, cult, the fitness and wellness platform, marked National Lazy Day with a unique campaign titled ‘Cult Do Nothing Class’. The initiative spotlights an often-overlooked truth in fitness: real progress requires rest.

The campaign is based on the insight that while people actively track workouts, steps, and personal bests, far fewer prioritise recovery. In reality, recovery is when the body repairs, adapts, and grows stronger. The ‘Do Nothing Class’ reframes rest not as a break from fitness, but as an essential part of the journey.

The brand film opens in a cult centre where members, expecting their usual high-intensity workout, instead find hammocks, bean bags, and trainers in loungewear. No squats, no burpees—just breathing, sipping tea, relaxing in massage chairs, and unwinding under cheeky signs reading “Shoes off. Rest on” and “We’ve put a hard limit on effort today.”

Siva Kumar Pedhapati, Head of Brand Marketing at cult, explained, “Fitness is often linked with action and achievement, but recovery is equally important. That’s where real growth happens. This campaign is about embracing balance and recognising rest as progress.”

The campaign unfolded both online and in cult centres across Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Around 1,000 members in 30 centres swapped regular workouts for light, mindful movement and guided relaxation.

Social media quickly amplified the message, with influencers praising cult for challenging the ‘always-on’ fitness mindset and encouraging conversations about rest and recovery in India’s fast-paced urban culture.

“Progress and community are at the heart of cult,” added Siva. “We’ll continue driving conversations that challenge fitness stereotypes and celebrate all forms of movement—including stillness.”
