Birla Opus Paints Partners with The Heritage Project to Restore Mumbai's Worli Koliwada
Birla Opus Paints partners with The Heritage Project to restore over 100 homes and community spaces in Mumbai's historic Worli Koliwada.
Birla Opus Paints, the paint business of Grasim Industries, has partnered with The Heritage Project (THP), an initiative supported by RPG Foundation, for the restoration and repainting of over 100 homes and four community centers in Mumbai’s heritage Worli Koliwada.
This initiative corresponds to the brand philosophy ‘Duniya Ko Rang Do’ and is aimed at conserving the cultural identity of one of Mumbai’s oldest fishing settlements and supporting community-led revitalisation.
Birla Opus Paints has also launched a campaign film as part of the project that captures the transformation of Worli Koliwada, the home of Mumbai’s indigenous Koli community, over two months. It draws on the vibrant shades of fishing boats, the Arabian Sea, traditional jewellery and festive marigolds, and reflects how the neighbourhood has been revitalised with a colour palette inspired by the Koli culture.

Community Restoration:
As part of the campaign, local residents have shared stories of how the restoration has helped to bring a new sense of community pride while preserving the unique heritage and character of the area.
The restoration is a part of The Heritage Project’s Worli Koliwada Transformation Project which aims to strengthen neighbourhood identity, conserve cultural heritage and support the livelihood of the Koli community.
The project used more than 1,200 litres of paint and associated materials. Being coastal in nature, Birla Opus Paints deployed high-performance exterior paint solutions that can withstand humidity, salinity and heavy monsoon conditions while keeping the colour durable.
Speaking about the initiative, Inderpreet Singh, Head of Marketing, Birla Opus Paints said, “This partnership is a representation of our belief in using colour to strengthen our communities, while celebrating India’s living heritage.

"At Birla Opus Paints, our philosophy of 'Duniya Ko Rang Do' is about creating spaces that people feel deeply connected to, and our partnership with The Heritage Project is a meaningful way of bringing our ethos of togetherness to life. We believe colour has the power to bring a renewed sense of pride and camaraderie into communities, and we are thrilled to contribute to an initiative that celebrates the heritage that makes Worli Koliwada truly unique," he said.
Radha Goenka, Founder of The Heritage Project, said the initiative seeks to preserve living heritage by supporting neighbourhoods and communities rather than focusing solely on monuments.
"Worli Koliwada reflects a heritage that continues to evolve with its people. Our work here is about strengthening that identity through small interventions that honour the past while supporting how the neighbourhood lives today," she said.
