Despite winning slots, Sony Pal and Colors Rishtey will not return to Free Dish.
DD Free Dish stated in November that the channels would be available on the platform effective in December.
According to media sources, Sony Pal and Colors Rishtey have withdrawn from DD Free Dish. This is despite the fact that the networks, owned by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and Viacom18, respectively, won slots in the November e-auction.
This also contradicts DD Free Dish's announcement last month, in which the platform stated that both Sony Pal and Colors Rishtey will be available on Free Dish beginning in December.
According to industry insiders, the return of Sony Pal and Colors Rishtey is not surprising given that pay broadcasters have not gained significantly from the pull-out.
Early this year, the main four broadcasters dropped their Hindi GECs from DD Free Dish. They did, however, lose ad revenue due to a decline in GRPs of the Hindi GECs, while subscription revenue remained under pressure due to customer movement to alternative platforms like as DD Free Dish and OTT video streaming. The networks have already stated that the withdrawal from DD Free Dish has had a significant impact on their ad revenue growth.
