ChatGPT launches 'archive chats' feature, simplifying browsing past conversations

OpenAI's premium AI offering, ChatGPT, unveils a new chat archiving feature, allowing users to remove chats from the sidebar without deletion. As of now, this feature is exclusively available on the web and iOS versions, with plans for Android support in the pipeline.

The announcement was made via a post on X, where OpenAI detailed, "ChatGPT now offers chat archiving, removing chats from the sidebar without deletion. Access your archived chats in Settings." Currently accessible on Web and iOS, Android compatibility is on the horizon.

In a broader strategic move, OpenAI disclosed its proactive stance against potential AI risks. The company introduced a comprehensive 'Preparedness Framework' outlining methods to monitor, assess, predict, and safeguard against 'catastrophic risks' linked with advanced language models.

Within this framework, OpenAI delineated catastrophic risks as events that could incur massive economic losses or result in severe harm or fatalities. These encompass, but aren't limited to, existential risks.

The preparedness initiative focuses on evaluating forthcoming Frontier AI models across cybersecurity, CBRN threats (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear), persuasion, and model autonomy. Models scoring at a medium or lower risk level in these categories will be developed.

Additionally, OpenAI revealed plans to establish a safety advisory group, responsible for scrutinizing reports and presenting findings to the executive team and board of directors. While the executive team holds decision-making power, the board retains the authority to overrule decisions if necessary.

Although not explicitly identified, the decision-making group likely includes CEO Sam Altman, president Greg Brockman, and CTO Mira Murati among its members. This proactive approach underscores OpenAI's commitment to both enhancing user experience with ChatGPT and addressing potential AI-associated risks.
