Sachin Tendulkar’s Lookalike Steals the Show in Eye Ad
Sachin Tendulkar’s lookalike stars in Dr. Agarwal’s witty ad, humorously highlighting cataract detection and the importance of clear vision in everyday moments.
Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital has launched a witty and engaging ad campaign to raise awareness about cataract detection. The campaign takes a lighthearted approach to a serious issue, using humor to emphasize the importance of maintaining clear vision. Featuring cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his lookalike, Balvir Chand, the ad cleverly highlights how blurry vision caused by cataracts can lead to comical cases of mistaken identity.
The ad, conceptualized by Moonshot, a creative agency led by Tanmay Bhat and Deviah Bopanna, begins with Sachin posing for a selfie with his lookalike. Shortly after, a fan rushes towards the doppelgänger, mistaking him for the real cricket legend. Filled with excitement, the fan gushes over “Sachin Sir” while completely ignoring the actual Sachin, who is seated nearby.
As Sachin stands up to get the fan’s attention, he is hilariously mistaken for a random bystander. The situation escalates when the fan takes a selfie with the lookalike, unknowingly leaving the real Tendulkar out of the frame. The twist comes when the fan finally realizes his blunder. The story ends with both Sachin and the fan heading to Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital for an eye check-up, driving home the point that cataracts can obscure not just your vision but also your opportunities.
What makes this ad stand out is its unique storytelling and relatable humor. Instead of following a somber tone typically used in health campaigns, it brings a light-hearted perspective to an important issue, making the message memorable and impactful.
The ad is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, ensuring its accessibility to a wider audience. It follows the success of the hospital's Choose What You See campaign, which focused on improving awareness about senior citizens’ vision health.
Balvir Chand, the Tendulkar lookalike, also shines in this campaign. Known for his uncanny resemblance to the cricket star, Chand rose to fame through public appearances, commercials, and cricket promotions. He even represented brands like Goli Vada Pav, but his popularity waned after Tendulkar’s retirement in 2013. This ad marks his return to the spotlight, earning praise for his humorous role.
Established in 1957, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital has grown into a network of over 200 hospitals across India, earning a reputation for innovation and care in vision health. Through this campaign, the hospital reinforces the importance of timely cataract detection, proving that good vision is essential to enjoying life’s little—and big—moments.
