Voltas Marketing Head Deba Ghoshal to Step Down in 2025

Deba Ghoshal, after 14 successful years at Voltas, has announced that he will be stepping down as the company’s Head of Marketing to explore new opportunities. Ghoshal made the announcement exclusively to BW Marketing World. He will continue in his role until March 31, 2025, ensuring a seamless transition of responsibilities.

Ghoshal’s leadership at Voltas has been instrumental in the company’s growth and market dominance. Joining in 2011, Ghoshal helped Voltas secure its leadership position in the air conditioning industry by 2012-13 and has maintained it consistently ever since. His focus on brand equity accelerated Voltas’ trajectory, resulting in the company achieving and maintaining the highest Brand Equity Index in the air conditioning category for over a decade.

During his tenure, the company saw significant growth across key metrics. Under Ghoshal’s leadership, Voltas’ market capitalization grew 15 times, and the overall topline increased by 2.5 times. The company’s Unitary Cooling Products division witnessed 4.5x growth. Additionally, Ghoshal contributed to Voltas’ expansion into new categories, particularly the launch of Voltas Beko Home Appliances. His strategic direction helped Voltas maintain the highest counter share across all channels, driving brand choice and visibility.

Ghoshal’s role was not limited to marketing alone. He also played a pivotal part in overseeing various business verticals, including key accounts, modern trade, commercial refrigeration, and air coolers. His strategic approach in new product introductions, such as India’s first All Weather AC, Adjustable AC, PureAir AC, and the recent SmartAir AC, helped position Voltas as a leading player in the air conditioning industry.

One of Ghoshal’s most enduring contributions was the creation of the iconic ‘Mr Murthy’, the brand’s protagonist introduced in a 2012 campaign. The character remains relevant even today, underscoring Ghoshal’s long-lasting impact on Voltas’ brand identity.

Recognized for his expertise, Ghoshal earned a spot in the ‘BW Top 100 Marketers’ list for two consecutive years. Prior to Voltas, Ghoshal had a successful career with Honda Siel, LG Electronics, and Hero Electric, where he built the foundation for his leadership in marketing. Additionally, Ghoshal is a key figure in the Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA), where he currently serves as the Secretary & EC member.

As Ghoshal prepares for his next career chapter, his legacy at Voltas stands as a testament to his strategic vision and leadership. His tenure has not only shaped Voltas’ market dominance but also influenced the industry’s broader marketing practices, particularly in the cooling sector.
