Sustainable D2C Brand Beco Raised Funding To Offer Sustainable Home & Personal Care Products

Beco, a sustainable direct-to-consumer brand, has raised $3 million in a Series A funding round that was led by Rukum Capital and included Priyavrata Mafatlal, Better Capital, Prashant Pittie, and Titan Capital. Additionally taking part in the funding round were Bimal Parekh, Sweta Amrish Rau, Arjun Purkayastha, Harish Narayanan, Rehan Shaikh, Shantanu Deshpande, Kolte-Patil Family Ventures, Gaurav Arora, Avinash Badaia, and Exceed Entertainment.

The money raised will be used by Beco for supply chain operations, marketing, and research and development activities. The money will also be used to employ skilled people from various industries.

According to Beco, 67% of Indian urban young currently prefer sustainable products. Less than 25% of these teenagers have been successful in making the switch to sustainable alternatives. Aditya Ruia, the cofounder of Beco, stated: "The reason for such a big difference between what the Indian young wanted and what they got was lack of accessibility towards these (sustainable) items.

Aditya Ruia, Akshay Varma, and Anuj Ruia established Beco in 2019 to address this problem. The sustainable cooking, home, and personal care brand are established in Mumbai. It offers a huge selection of goods, including biodegradable trash bags, dishwashing liquid, bamboo facial tissues, tissue rolls, and dishwashing liquid. It asserts that every one of its goods is combustible and biodegradable

According to Ruia, "We (co-founders) realised that we not only have to establish a sustainable D2C brand in this arena but also modify consumer behavioural patterns to raise adoption and awareness (about sustainable solutions)."

The three co-founders are originally engineering and MBA grads. According to their LinkedIn accounts, Aditya, Akshay, and Anuj developed Quorg and Pet It Up before founding Beco, and Anuj previously collaborated with Procter & Gamble.

Beco has not yet submitted its financial statements for FY22, but according to its annual financial statements, which are accessible with the RoC, its operating revenue increased 2.8X to Rs 4.17 crore in FY21. In the fiscal year that ended in March 2021, the business also reported a profit of Rs 5 lakhs.
