As the year wraps up, Swiggy’s ‘How India Swiggy’d 2024’ report reveals fascinating trends from across the nation, shedding light on what people ordered in their quest for convenience and quick deliveries.
From makeup and vacuum cleaners to chips ordered at midnight in incognito mode, Swiggy Instamart showed that it wasn’t just about essentials—consumers were reaching for just about anything, knowing it could be delivered in 10 minutes. Convenience was the key, as customers embraced quick commerce to save time on everything from groceries to festive purchases.
Delhi’s noodle obsession stood out, with residents spending an impressive ₹60 crores on their favorite comfort food. The capital’s love for instant noodles, along with potato chips, showcased the city’s snack-loving culture. But Delhi’s snack fervor didn’t stop there—over 43 snack lovers spent more than ₹75,000 on chips, fueling an insatiable appetite for late-night munchies.
While Delhi crunched away on noodles, other regions had their own unique preferences. Bengaluru became the top spender in both puja essentials and party supplies, ordering more wine and shot glasses than any other city, especially during the festive Diwali season. Mumbai, on the other hand, lived up to its Maximum City moniker, splurging ₹8,20,360 on tonic water in one day, proving that quick commerce wasn’t just for essentials but for indulging in favorite beverages too.
As the year unfolded, Swiggy Instamart delivered more than 8,00,000 rakhis on Raksha Bandhan, with one Mumbai user ordering a whopping 31 rakhis in a single order. And Valentine’s Day saw a rise in orders of roses—with an astounding 307 roses per minute being ordered. Love was in the air, and in the carts too!
The report also shines a light on the festive season, where unique items were bought in bulk. Amdavadis took Dhanteras shopping seriously, splurging ₹8,32,032 on gold coins, while the country went into cleaning mode during Diwali, spending over ₹45,00,000 on brooms. In the mix of these quirky purchases, Swiggy Instamart delivered an endless range of products, from ice cream and chips during late-night cravings to sanitary pads and pain relief during changing seasons.
The year’s most amusing purchase involved a user from Hyderabad, who set a record spending ₹35,000 on mangoes in May, reaffirming the nation’s fondness for the seasonal fruit. On the other hand, Goa made its mark with ₹35,000 spent on tonic water.
The year also had swift deliveries that amazed users. In Kochi, a delivery was made in an incredible 89 seconds for items that included bananas and red amaranthus.
While Hyderabad and Bengaluru led the charge in eco-conscious deliveries, using the “Deliver Without Bag” option, Canada topped international orders, with loved ones sending essential items like milk and dosa batter to India.
