Walmart’s Flipkart and PhonePe Intensify Quick Commerce Battle
Walmart’s PhonePe and Flipkart are intensifying the quick commerce battle in India. PhonePe’s Pincode app and Flipkart Minutes offer ultra-fast delivery, challenging existing players like Zepto and Blinkit.
The battle for India’s quick commerce market is heating up, with Walmart’s subsidiaries, PhonePe and Flipkart, making significant moves.
PhonePe has launched its Pincode app, which offers 10-20 minute delivery for a range of products, including groceries, personal care items, and sports equipment. Unlike traditional quick commerce players that rely on dark stores, Pincode leverages a marketplace model that connects customers directly to neighborhood kirana stores. This asset-light approach reduces costs associated with inventory and warehouse management.
Meanwhile, Flipkart has expanded its Flipkart Minutes service to deliver products in 8-16 minutes in select areas of Bengaluru. The service offers free delivery for orders above Rs 99.
These developments intensify competition with other major players in the quick commerce space, including Zepto, Blinkit, and Swiggy Instamart. Zepto, in particular, has raised significant funding and is aggressively expanding its operations.
The quick commerce market in India is projected to reach approximately $7 billion by 2024. With increasing consumer demand for faster deliveries, companies are investing heavily in technology and logistics infrastructure to gain a competitive edge.
Amazon is also reportedly planning to enter the quick delivery segment with its Tez service, further intensifying the competition. As the market evolves, consumers can expect even faster delivery times and a wider range of products at their fingertips.
