Ram Bandhu and Robin Hood Army Unite to Combat India’s Food Wastage
Ram Bandhu and Robin Hood Army join forces to combat food wastage, launching “Ek Vichaar,” a short film promoting mindful food consumption and practical solutions.
In a remarkable new initiative, Ram Bandhu has joined hands with the Robin Hood Army to address India’s pressing issue of food wastage. Together, they’ve launched the “Stop Food Wastage Movement,” aiming to raise awareness about the importance of mindful food consumption and redistribution. As part of this effort, Ram Bandhu has released a digital film titled “Ek Vichaar” to drive the message home. The short film stars popular Maharashtrian actor Chinmay Udgirkar and has been produced by Amaze Productions with creative conceptualization by DigiChefs.
India has long struggled with food wastage, an issue with significant social and environmental consequences. According to a report by the UN Environment Programme, the average Indian wastes around 55 kg of food annually. On the other hand, over 13% of India’s population suffers from malnutrition, highlighting a glaring disparity in food availability and consumption. The “Stop Food Wastage Movement” aims to highlight these disparities and propose practical ways to reduce food waste in everyday life.
“Ek Vichaar,” the short film at the heart of this campaign, centers on a typical Indian family. In the film, we see children and adults frequently wasting food, whether during meals or while snacking. The storyline provides a powerful reminder of how small changes in our habits can have a huge impact on food availability for others. Towards the end, the film shares a simple yet meaningful message about reducing food wastage by suggesting easy-to-follow actions, such as feeding leftover food to stray animals or donating to those in need. By showing how even the smallest acts can contribute to a larger cause, the film encourages viewers to rethink their approach to food consumption.
The Robin Hood Army, a volunteer-based organization, has been instrumental in redistributing surplus food to people who might otherwise go hungry. This partnership with Ram Bandhu emphasizes the importance of directing surplus food resources to those in need rather than letting them go to waste. In support of this, Bhanudas Gundkar, marketing head of Empire Spices & Foods, the parent company of Ram Bandhu, shared his views: “As one of the leading food FMCG brands, we feel it’s our responsibility to address food wastage in our society and offer practical solutions that can truly make a difference.”
By targeting food wastage awareness, “Ek Vichaar” intends to instill a sense of responsibility among viewers regarding their food consumption habits. With its digital release, the film is set to reach a broad audience, encouraging them to reflect on the severe implications of food wastage in a country with a high rate of malnutrition.
With the “Stop Food Wastage Movement,” Ram Bandhu and Robin Hood Army hope to change societal attitudes and inspire individuals to adopt more responsible food habits. The campaign’s broader goal is to spark long-term change by reinforcing the notion that food is a precious resource that should be respected, not wasted. By spreading awareness and sharing practical steps to minimize wastage, the initiative hopes to make a substantial impact on reducing food waste in India.
