OYO Introduces Policy Restricting Unmarried Couples in Meerut Hotels

OYO, the popular travel booking platform, has revised its check-in policy, introducing new guidelines aimed at discouraging unmarried couples from staying at its partner hotels. This policy has been initially implemented in Meerut, with plans for a broader rollout depending on local feedback.

Under the new rules, couples must present valid proof of relationship during check-in, even for online bookings. Partner hotels have also been granted the discretion to decline couple reservations based on their judgment and local social sensibilities.

Pawas Sharma, Region Head for OYO North India, emphasized the company’s commitment to safe and responsible hospitality practices. Speaking to PTI, Sharma stated:
"OYO is dedicated to balancing personal freedoms with the need to align with law enforcement and community expectations in the regions we serve. We will periodically review the policy's impact."

This policy is part of OYO’s efforts to improve its public perception, positioning itself as a safer option for families and solo travelers. The directive aligns with OYO’s collaboration with local civil society groups and aims to address concerns regarding local societal norms.
