Mamaearth CEO: Infosys, LinkedIn, Netflix founders reject work-life balance

Mamaearth's co-founder, Ghazal Alagh, took to LinkedIn on April 24 to share a lengthy post, highlighting that founders of prominent companies like Infosys, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Reddit dismiss the concept of work-life balance. She emphasized that the true definition of work-life balance is often misconstrued.

"In case you're unaware, there's a common belief among the founders of Infosys, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Reddit that work-life balance isn't feasible for those dedicated to building businesses. Nevertheless, I argue that the concept of work-life balance is frequently misunderstood," she conveyed.

Alagh elaborated that the work-life balance debate stems from a misinterpretation of its essence. Rather than perceiving it as a fixed notion, she advocated for recognizing it as a construct that individuals create for themselves.

"Work-life balance varies from person to person. Some may opt for a daily equilibrium, while others may balance their time over the span of a week by allocating intense work days and leisurely weekends," she explained.

She stressed the importance of allowing individuals to define work-life balance according to their preferences, asserting that the debate dissipates when people have the autonomy to prioritize what matters most to them at any given moment.

The post sparked a discourse on the platform, with professionals sharing their perspectives on work-life balance. "It's invigorating to encounter a viewpoint that challenges the conventional notion of work-life balance," remarked one user. Another user expressed, "Work-life balance, to me, is merely a phrase attempting to convey significance. In reality, work and personal life coexist.
