For those unfamiliar, 'Gunda' is a 1998 film directed by Kanti Shah, known for its eccentric characters like Bulla, Chuttiya, and Lambu Aata, portrayed by Mukesh Rishi, Shakti Kapoor, and Ishrat Ali, respectively. The film has achieved cult status over the years, celebrated for its "so-bad-it's-good" appeal, featuring outlandish dialogue, exaggerated stunts, and a melodramatic good-vs-evil storyline.

Mukesh Rishi's portrayal of Bulla is particularly memorable, especially his infamous line, "Mera naam hain Bulla. Rakhta hoon main khulla." In the boAt ad, Rishi channels this character with a modern twist, humorously incorporating product features into his monologue: “Lambu ne battery ko lamba kar diya. Machis ki teeli se khamba kar diya,” referring to the extended battery life and other features of the Airdopes.

Interestingly, the ad also sees Bulla using contemporary Gen Z slang, showcasing phrases like “slaps,” “pookie,” and “alpha,” adding a humorous and modern touch to the character's persona.

The campaign, conceptualized in-house by boAt's marketing team, has been well-received, blending nostalgia with humor to create a memorable promotion for the new product.
