WhatsApp will soon let desktop users post status updates

WhatsApp's desktop app now lets some beta testers post status updates. Install the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac from TestFlight to try

WhatsApp will soon let desktop users post status updates

WhatsApp users have been eagerly anticipating this update: the Meta-owned messaging giant is releasing a new feature that allows Desktop app users to share status updates. Initially available to some beta testers, this feature will be expanded to more users in the coming days.

According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp developments, the messaging app will soon enable Mac users to share status updates from linked devices, similar to the Android version. This new capability allows users to share images, videos, GIFs, text, and voice messages through status updates from any connected mobile device, enhancing communication without being restricted to one primary device.

"Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac 24.11.73 update, available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out the feature to share status updates from the desktop app," the report stated.

Screenshots shared in the report reveal that some beta testers can now use the new feature to share updates directly from the status tab by installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac from TestFlight. Previously, Mac app users could only view status updates, not post them.

"This marks a significant enhancement in functionality and brings the desktop experience in line with the mobile version," WABetaInfo noted.

The report suggests that this new feature provides greater independence from mobile devices, allowing users to handle status updates directly from their Mac. This is especially beneficial for those who spend a lot of time on their desktops, as it eliminates the need to switch between devices, thus improving the overall user experience.

Additionally, this feature allows users to share status updates without relying on their mobile device being powered on or having an active internet connection.

"We believe that this feature also ensures that the multi-device experience on WhatsApp remains consistent. By enabling the same capabilities across both mobile and desktop platforms, WhatsApp ensures that users have a uniform experience regardless of the device they are using," the report concluded.
