The Brand Integration Formula Behind Samay Raina's Show

Samay Raina is redefining brand integrations on India's Got Latent, turning sponsors into punchlines while creating memorable marketing moments that brands are embracing.

The Brand Integration Formula Behind Samay Raina's Show

On comedy shows, brand integrations tend to be more seamless. A product is mentioned, its features are discussed, and the show moves on. But comedian Samay Raina has written a different playbook, one where the sponsor is often the punchline.

Three episodes into season two of India’s Got Latent, now streaming on Netflix and YouTube, Raina’s unconventional take on branded content is turning heads again. Instead of viewing sponsorships as carefully scripted interruptions, the show embraces them, jokes about them and in some cases turns accidental brand mentions into memorable marketing moments.

The latest instance was in the third episode when actor Raghu Ram, while talking about a contestant’s act, mistakenly said Amazon Minutes instead of the show’s sponsor Flipkart Minutes.

Branded Humour:

The mistake was forgivable, as Amazon’s quick-commerce service is called Amazon Now, but the show didn’t edit the moment out, and it stayed in. Raina played along until she pointed out the right sponsor to Raghu, turning what could have been a branding gaffe into one of the episode’s biggest laughs.

If anything, the moment only increased the sponsor’s visibility.

The show has also woven in Flipkart Minutes in running gags throughout the season, including several references to the “cheap, cheap, cheapest”. The platform has also included more traditional integrations, with contestants taking part in branded quiz segments for additional prizes.

The show has followed the same path with other advertisers.

In the first episode, the comedy was integrated with the smartphone brand AI+ Nova. Clearly, Raina was on some other call but he pitched AI+ in a light-hearted way as the ideal upgrade for anyone looking to buy a smartphone under ₹50,000.

When fellow comedian Aashish Solanki claimed that Raina was already using a “AI phone”, Raina responded: “Mere paas ek phone hai jisse main upgrade karne wala hun AI+ pe. It only has an I at present.

The gag did not mask the sponsorship, it acknowledged it- enabling the advertisement and the humour to coexist.

This is consistent with Raina’s broader approach to branded partnerships.

Calculated Chaos:

Two years ago, at Zomato’s 16th anniversary comedy roast, he performed inside Zomato’s office wearing a Swiggy T-shirt. The move gave a competing brand a brief moment in the spotlight, but it also became one of the most-discussed moments of the campaign.

After the controversy surrounding the first season of India’s Got Latent, speculation was rife on social media that Raina had tightened internal review processes with lawyers and brand consultants said to be scrutinising content before it is released.
