Kaspersky brings Cyber Investigation Centre Family Day to KidZania Mumbai, building on successful Delhi NCR edition
Following the successful Media Family Day at KidZania Delhi NCR, Kaspersky’s hands-on cybersecurity role-play for children and parents returns to Mumbai, where the Cyber Investigation Centre first began, because cyber safety is a lesson families learn best together.
Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity and digital privacy company, today hosted a Media Family Day at the Kaspersky Cyber Investigation Centre at KidZania Mumbai, located at R City Mall, Ghatkopar, in partnership with KidZania India, the country’s largest indoor edutainment theme park. This follows the successful Media Family Day at KidZania Delhi NCR on 6 October 2026, and brings the experience back to Mumbai, where the Centre first opened in April 2026.
The event brought together parents and children, who took part in the same cybersecurity role-play that has been open to visitors at both KidZania India locations since April 2026. Mumbai, where the partnership first began, offered a natural setting to continue the conversation on how children’s online behaviour in India is changing, and how cybersecurity awareness can be built through practice rather than instruction.
AI, smartphones and the changing shape of children’s screen time
Today’s children are growing up with AI as part of their everyday online lives. Kaspersky data on app usage among children in India for the first half of 2026 places ChatGPT seventh among the 20 most-used apps, with a 2.41% share. It sits behind YouTube (30.68%), WhatsApp (29.14%), Instagram (10.24%), Chrome (9.35%), Facebook (2.55%) and Brave (2.50%), and ahead of Zoom (2.38%), Roblox (1.79%) and Telegram (1.51%), making it the only AI chatbot in the Top 10. Children are using services such as ChatGPT for homework assistance, answering questions and everyday conversations. Researchers warn that interactions with chatbots, particularly customised bots created by other users, can expose children to misinformation.
Kaspersky’s annual report on kids’ digital interests, based on anonymised data from Kaspersky Safe Kids users between May 2025 and April 2026, found that AI-related apps and services jumped from sixth to third place in children’s Google searches, with tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek dominating. Online learning entered the Top 5 of children’s Google queries, with kids searching for platforms like Google Classroom, Duolingo and GeoGebra, while video streaming fell from 18% to 8.7% year-on-year. Communication was the most popular category (19.3%), with video games in second place (16%).
It is with this vision that Kaspersky and KidZania brought families together in Delhi NCR and now Mumbai, making parents and children allies in building safer digital habits. As children explore more of the internet on their own, tools that keep parents involved matter more. Kaspersky Safe Kids, which lets parents filter web content, manage screen time and set age-appropriate profiles across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, has blocked 106 million harmful websites.
Commenting on the findings, Purshottam Bhatia, Head of Consumer Business – South Asia at Kaspersky, said, "The enthusiasm we saw from parents and children at our Family Day in Delhi NCR last week reaffirmed something we have always believed: when families learn about cybersecurity together, the lessons travel home with them. Bringing this experience back to Mumbai, where our Cyber Investigation Centre first opened its doors, is a natural next step in our mission to build a digitally aware generation across India.”
"With AI tools now part of children’s everyday routines, often on smartphones used away from direct supervision, the conversation around online safety has never been more important. It has to begin at home, one conversation at a time. Every family that walks through the KidZania Cyber Investigation Centre leaves with more than a fun day out. They leave better equipped to navigate the digital world together, and that is the kind of impact we are committed to building across the country," he added.
Speaking at the event, Tarandeep Singh Sekhon, Chief Business Officer, KidZania India, said, “It was wonderful to see our friends from the media celebrating with their children at Kaspersky Media Day at KidZania Mumbai. Cyber safety is no longer just a conversation about technology — it is an essential life skill, and one that families need to understand together.
At KidZania, we believe children don't learn by being told; they learn by doing. The Kaspersky Cyber Investigation Centre brings this belief to life, allowing children to step into the role of cyber investigators, solve cases and learn to recognise online threats through hands-on experience. Having seen a similar response at our Delhi NCR centre last week, it is encouraging to see this shared curiosity among families in Mumbai too.
A big thank you to the Kaspersky team for continuing to champion this important cause with us. Together, we are making cyber safety more relatable, engaging and meaningful for children.”
Inside the Cyber Investigation Centre
The Media Family Day at KidZania Mumbai brought together members of the media and their families with teams from Kaspersky and KidZania India. Proceedings opened with a welcome address by Purshottam Bhatia, followed by an overview of the Kaspersky–KidZania partnership from KidZania India. Families then explored KidZania on a guided tour, with the Cyber Investigation Centre as its highlight, before the day closed with an interaction and Q&A with the Kaspersky team.
At the Centre, young investigators took charge of their own cyber cases. Seated at workstations running Kaspersky security software, they worked through simulated cases of phishing, identity theft and cyberbullying, learning to spot online threats, browse safely and respond to each situation the way a cybersecurity professional would. Sessions run for 20 minutes with up to six children at a time, and every child who cracks their case earns KidZos and a personalised Cyber Investigator card.
As part of its ongoing efforts to make cyber safety more accessible for Indian families, Kaspersky has partnered with KidZania to offer a special package that includes a 30-day free trial, up to 40% off on Premium protection, and a complimentary one-year Safe Kids subscription worth INR 1,439, available at kaspersky.co.in.
Practical steps for parents
Based on the trends observed in its data, Kaspersky recommends that parents:
- Keep the conversation open. Talk to children regularly about what they do online and agree on clear ground rules, so they feel comfortable coming to you when something seems wrong.
- Give smartphones the same attention as computers. Apply content filters and parental controls on mobile devices, where the data shows exposure to harmful content is highest.
- Teach children that AI can be wrong. Encourage them to verify chatbot answers, never share personal details with AI tools, and avoid user-created bots that may carry unmoderated content.
- Help them spot manipulation. Explain the warning signs of phishing, such as unexpected links, prize offers or urgent requests arriving via messaging apps, games or email.
- Review settings as children grow. Revisit controls and privacy settings periodically, as the apps children use change quickly. Free resources such as Kaspersky's Cybersecurity Alphabet can help introduce children to the basics of cyber hygiene.
