Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre Celebrates the Launch of The Library, a New Cultural Destination Dedicated to the Joy of Reading

Mumbai, 4 November 2026: The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) celebrated the launch of The Library, its newest literary and cultural destination, at a special gathering hosted by its Founder and Chairperson, Mrs. Nita Mukesh Ambani, ahead of her birthday on 1st November. Bringing together distinguished guests from the worlds of art, culture, entertainment and business, the occasion marked the opening of a space dedicated to books, food, conversations, and shared experiences.

The Library carries forward Mrs. Ambani's vision of celebrating India's rich artistic and cultural heritage while bringing the best of the world to India, and India to the world. Its collection of over 4,500 handpicked titles spans fiction, children’s books, art, design, history, culture, food, travel and more, convening Indian, international and multilingual voices. It also houses the entire Amar Chitra Katha collection, bringing together much-loved stories from Indian mythology, history, literature and folk tales at the Chariot of Wisdom installation.

Designed by architect and designer Ashiesh Shah, the two-level space draws inspiration from traditional university libraries and Milan's interior design aesthetic. Sculptural books, tabletops with carved open-book details, intimate alcoves and a circular coffee bar lend the interiors their distinctive character. While the ground floor invites visitors to browse books and enjoy the dining experience, the mezzanine offers a quieter setting for reading. A dedicated stage creates an intimate space for performances and other literary engagement.

A highlight of the launch was a special conversation between Mrs. Nita Mukesh Ambani and Sonali Bendre Behl, actor, author and founder of Sonali’s Book Club. The discussion touched upon the importance of fostering a love for books among children, the role of libraries in bringing people together, and their shared appreciation for reading. Mrs. Ambani also spoke about her love for books growing up, fondly remembering Gone with the Wind as one of her favourites.

Speaking about the vision behind The Library, Mrs. Ambani said, “When we started the NMACC three years ago, it became a home to arts, culture, dance and music. But I still felt something was missing. Books. As a grandmother, I wanted my grandchildren to discover the magic of books and let their imagination run wild.”

Emphasizing the importance of leading by example, Mrs. Ambani added, “Children observe things. If parents are reading, they will read. I did that with my kids, Akash, Isha, and Anant. And now I do it with my four grandchildren.”

The evening brought together several distinguished guests from the worlds of film, literature, and art, including Anupama Chopra, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Mira Kapoor, Vikrant Massey, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Rajkumar Rao, Soha Ali Khan, Prasoon Joshi, Manish Malhotra, Priya Malik, and Namita Devidayal, to name a few.

Guests also experienced The Library's all-day dining offering, co-created by the NMACC team and restaurateur Aditi Dugar.

The Library will host a year-round programme of author conversations, storytelling, spoken-word performances, workshops and activities for children and families. Bringing together established and emerging voices, the programme will offer readers opportunities to engage with literature, ideas and creative expression across generations. The Library at NMACC opens to guests on 1st November 2026.
