X Revamps Android App for Faster Performance

X has rebuilt its Android application from the ground up in one of the company’s largest mobile engineering projects to date, replacing its legacy app with a new architecture to improve performance, enhance user experience and accelerate the rollout of future features.

Instead of incremental software updates, the company decided to rewrite the Android client from scratch. “The new framework makes development easier, sheds technical debt that has built up over years of updates and provides a more scalable base for future product innovation,” said X.

This overhaul comes after years of complaints from Android users that the platform has been slower and less responsive than its iOS cousin. Users complained about the slow navigation, the delays in loading notifications and the slow opening of the shared posts.

Future-Ready Platform:

X Head of Product Nikita Bier said of the redesign, “Rebuilding the Android application was a significant engineering effort but will provide a stronger long-term foundation for the platform. The new app is expected to have smoother scrolling, faster response times and improved stability across supported Android devices.

X says the new architecture will not only improve performance but also make it easier for engineers to develop and ship new features faster. The rebuilt platform will roll out over time, with upcoming capabilities including enhanced video creation tools, richer interaction formats and additional personalisation features.

The company also said it plans to keep working on improving the app for older Android phones, and will expand support for Spaces, X's live audio feature, in future software updates.

X is pressing ahead with rebuilding Android as it moves beyond its core social networking platform into a broader ecosystem of digital services including X Chat and X Money. These products will be backed by a more flexible and scalable mobile infrastructure, which is expected to be a key enabler for improving the overall user experience.
