Titan Enters In-House Mechanical Watchmaking with New Movement Brand Vetra

Titan has signaled a major progression in its technical ambitions with the launch of Vetra, a brand dedicated to developing mechanical watch movements in-house. The move places Titan among a select group of global watchmakers with proprietary movement manufacturing capabilities while establishing a foundation for indigenous horology in India. The new movement platform makes its debut as the engine driving Titan’s latest collection of automatic timepieces.   

The name Vetra draws inspiration from two Sanskrit concepts: Veda, representing time as an eternal, renewing cycle, and Tra, an instrument designed to channel force into concrete form. Together, the name reflects Titan’s internal shift toward mastering mechanical engineering from within. According to Rahul Shukla, Vice-President and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Titan’s Watches Division, the launch demonstrates what Indian watchmaking can create when technical ambition meets the confidence to build internally, while strengthening India’s standing in global horology.   

Engineering Architecture and Premium Material Specifications

At the core of the new product line is the Vetra 7A series, a modular mechanical movement architecture designed to accommodate different complications and dial layouts. Every timepiece in the launch collection is housed in 316L surgical-grade stainless steel featuring a combination of vertical satin and polished finishes alongside shaped crown guards.   

For protection and legibility, the cases feature domed sapphire crystal treated with a three-layer anti-reflective coating. Nighttime visibility is provided by X1-grade Swiss Super-LumiNova on key dial elements. Titan stated that each Vetra movement undergoes hand assembly and individual testing to comply with international standards, specifically NF S 81-513 for movement evaluation and ISO 22810 for water resistance.   

The Four Initial Launch Models

The new Titan Automatics range features four distinct models, each interpreting the Vetra 7A architecture through a different functional setup:

• Infinium: Driven by the Vetra Calibre 7A20+, this 40 mm watch centers on extended running time, delivering a 72-hour power reserve made possible by an optimized barrel and mainspring design. The dial features a 3D-pressed lacquer finish accompanied by diamond-cut hands.   
• Dualis: Powered by the Vetra 7A37 calibre, this 42 mm model is designed for travel. It includes an independent GMT hand and an internal rotating 24-hour bezel, allowing wearers to track a second time zone while adjusting for local time.   
• Midnite: Built around the Vetra 7A77 calibre, this 42 mm watch introduces a formal design characterized by a dual-disc big-date display, a vertical-patterned dial, and faceted hands.   
• Atrium: Offering a dressier take on the 7A architecture, this 42 mm model is powered by the Vetra 7A200-C calibre. It incorporates an offset seconds sub-dial, a knurled bezel, a sandblasted dial with Roman numerals, and a dual-finish bracelet. It is offered in both concealed-dial and open-heart versions.
